India-Montserrat Relations
India enjoys cordial relations with Montserrat, a self-governing UK overseas territory in the Caribbean. Montserrat is concurrently accredited to Mission in Port of Spain.
2. A MoU in the areas of Technical Cooperation, Culture, Agriculture, Small Business Development, IT, Healthcare, Seismology and Sports etc. was signed by the High Commissioner and the Premier of Montserrat in September 2011.
3. Bilateral trade stood at USD 0.12 million for FY23-24 vis-à-vis USD 0.15 million in FY22-23. India exports mainly electrical machinery and equipment, pharmaceuticals, plastic, cotton, apparels etc. Indian exports contribute to bilateral trade with nil imports from Montserrat.
4. Indian cultural troupes have visited Montserrat around St. Patrick’s Day in 2010, 2011 and 2013.The Indian community comprises about 30 people, mostly businessmen and professionals.
5. The Government of Montserrat has waived visa requirement for Indian nationals visiting Montserrat for tourism and business purposes for a period of three months. The Government of India has approved e-Tourist Visa for citizens of Montserrat.
